Message from the Head of School

We hope that you find our website to be informative and that it intrigues you enough to visit us in person. ASM started in 1975 as a small one room Montessori pre-school, located in a church building. Today, we serve 200 students ages 3 through 8th grade in a facility that was built in 1996 and expanded in 2001. In many ways, the world was a different place in 1975. Because of technological advances, it is getting smaller and smaller. The children being educated now will be citizens of the world; in fact, some already are. Our responsibility is to provide as many opportunities as possible for students to learn about the rest of the world, its people and how they live. Students at ASM work closely with teachers to meet high academic standards while progressing through the Montessori curriculum at their own pace; moving ahead when they are ready, yet being able to stay with a concept until it is understood. Paula Polk Lillard is the author of Montessori: A Modern Approach, which has been published in seven languages and is internationally known as the standard introduction to Montessori education, and Montessori Today: A Comprehensive Plan of Education from Birth to Adulthood. She also is the Head of School at Forest Bluff School, a school which she co-founded in 1982 to provide Montessori classroom environments for children ages 18 months to 15 years. [read more]
